When we’re in the thick of it, we have a tendency to look only at the problem. We think about it, talk to others about it, ask people to pray for us as we “go through” it. All the while our focus is on the problem, not the solution. We conjure up all kinds of fear-based scenarios about what could happen, how our lives will change, etc. We zero in on it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and it slowly begins to consume our lives.

Where we are at right now is in a constant state of fear. We are watching the news, reading the news, listening to the news…all of our senses are over stimulated and stressed out. As the numbers of the infected begin to quite literally double and triple in just one day’s time, we are overwhelmed with anxiety and negativity.

Yet, what we must do in moments such as these is find the positive as well. At least once a day we must look at all of the goodness that is coming of this. Humanity coming together to help those in need. The Earth being able to take a much-needed deep breath and rid herself of all of the toxins we have emitted. A moment for us all to relax, unplug, and connect with those with love (even if it is over FaceTime, or Zoom). It is a moment for everything living to pause, reflect and rejuvenate. It is Something Beautiful.

But let’s be real…I know it is not that simple to see it all this way. It is indeed a practice to take a step back, and breathe in deep…close your eyes and go within. To know that nothing is permanent, and no matter how bad the situation seems I will be able to find the good in it. I’ve spent too many hours, days, even years fearing things that never materialized.

How many times have we said “I’d love to know what I know now, and go back 25 years”?  The struggles of those days seem so far away now, and I know I did not possess the wisdom I possess now. But it was those very struggles that drove me to my knees, making me realize there’s something I have to learn here.  So, I read, read some more, and the books kept coming.  The tools I needed were provided at the very pace necessary to learn.  And why wouldn’t they!  Is there not a passage of scripture that states “Ask and you shall receive, knock and it shall be opened, seek and you shall find”? No idle words there. I am so grateful for those struggles today. They were necessary in order to provide the perfect condition for growth.

The more you practice something, obviously the better you get at it. I’ve been practicing Yoga regularly for about a year now. What’s changed in me is the awareness of my breath. The ability to focus on my breathing, slow it down, direct it, is one of the many benefits of Yoga. There’s so much I have to learn, it’s just staggering. But what a revelation when in the midst of difficulty or adversity, if I am mindful enough to take a step back, focus on breathing, and realize that deep within me dwells the most amazing Love and Power. The very same power that raised Jesus from the dead, lives, moves and has It’s being in me. Why wouldn’t Something Beautiful come of this! Why wouldn’t something new and refreshing evolve as something else dies! Therein lies my focus now. And it is truly Something Beautiful!

Please take a moment to listen to the song I wrote called “Something Beautiful II.” I hope it brings you joy, peace and so much love.

Much Love,

Rebecca

SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL…..OHHH, SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL WILL COME OF THIS, TRUST ME IN THIS, SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL.

THOUGH DARK IS THE WAY THERE’S A RAY OF HOPE, SOME GOOD IN WHAT SEEMS BAD. HARD AS YOU TRY, YOU JUST CANNOT COPE, SEEMS THE WHOLE DAMN WORLD’S GONE MAD.

TAKE A STEP BACK, BREATHE IN DEEP, CLOSE YOUR EYES AND GO WITHIN. CLOSER THAN BREATH THERE IS LOVE, THERE IS POWER, SOMETHING NEW’S ABOUT TO BEGIN.

DO NOT FEAR, DO NOT CRY……THIS WILL PASS BY AND BY…
